Housing Organisations Tackling Homelessness
Dear Colleagues
Welcome to the first of four factsheets for 2010 from the Housing Diversity Network and the Centre for Local Ecomomic Strategies (CLES): Housing Organisations Tackling Worklessness. The economic recession has had a profound impact on the UK’s economy and particularly on the functioning of the labour market. The inactivity rate is now more that 21% of the working age population and the total is the highest since records began in 1971. The current economic situation makes tackling under-employment amongst those with disabilities particularly pertinent as during periods of economic recession, those who have historically been distant from the labour market risk being excluded further. This concern about high levels of worklessness, in particular amongst targeted groups, has been joined by increasing interest in the role of social housing providers in raising levels of employment amongst residents.
