PROGRAMME UPDATE: Applications are now open for Mentees and Mentors on the 2012/13 programme: the deadline for completed forms is now FRIDAY 3RD AUGUST 2012.

Who is the programme for if you want to become a Mentee?
If you feel that you are underrepresented in your organisation in terms of:
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Race
  • Sexuality
  • Disability
And you are an officer or junior management level, who would like to progress into management and the class topics could help you to do that, then you should apply to become a Mentee. Your organisation must be an HDN Member for you to join.If you are unsure about this please contact a Mentoring coordinator and they will help you. Contact us.

Who is the programme for if you want to be a Mentor?
The programme relies on Mentors volunteering their time and expertise to help junior staff to progress their careers. They are matched with Mentees from a different organisation so that they are able to offer impartial and confidential advice. Mentors need to be
  • at manager level in their organisation
  • be committed to the principles of mentoring
  • can contribute to tprogramme, for example by attending a mentoring class
  • they are able to attend a half day training session and at least 5 individual meetings with their Mentee
  • they DO NOT need to be HDN members
Becoming a mentor is a fantastically rewarding experience, a chance to pass on skills and experience and also an opportunity for self-development. Mentors on the HDN programme receive a wide-range of support to help them including;
  • Morning programme briefing session, with an optional afternoon training on ‘Skills for Effective Mentoring’
  • Access to a UK-wide network of over 150 senior housing professionals who are acting as HDN Mentors via an online forum
  • Access to support from a regional ‘Mentoring Champion’, an experienced HDN Mentor who can provide support and guidance, whilst maintaining the confidential boundaries of the mentoring relationship
  • Attendance at our mentoring conference, where we recognise the time and effort given by all of our mentors and also give regional, ‘Mentor of the Year’ awards for those who have made an outstanding contribution to the programme
How much does it cost and what is included?
Our HDN Mentoring Programme is provided free of charge, and is included as a benefit of membership of our network. Each member organisation is entitled to place up to 5 mentees on this fantastic programme, which includes:
  • A half-day briefing event to induct mentees and mentors onto the programme
  • Four professional development sessions (which combine seminars with expert speakers from the housing sector with active learning sets providing an ‘Introduction to Management’)
  • A minimum of five 1-2-1 mentoring sessions with a Senior Housing Professional from outside of their own organisation
  • A Personal Development Log to help them review and track their progress, as well as record key goals and actions at each stage of the programme
  • On-going support from a dedicated regional HDN Mentoring Coordinator
  • Access to online learning resources and professional networking forums
