What's it Got to Do With You? Stonewall has launched a new plain English guide to help workplaces and service providers explain monitoring to their employees and service users. This innovative resource makes the case for monitoring across all equality strands, including disability, gender or gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion and belief and age.

Cultural Awareness Handbook Sheffield City Council Housing Services One of the key issues in providing good quality services to people from BME communities is staff awareness. This handbook developed by Sheffield City Council in response to requests from staff, sets out to provide a range of information on Sheffield’s BME communities and was developed in partnership with BME voluntary and community groups across the city. It sets out basic information about the different communities in Sheffield, their cultures, religions and needs, so that staff could feel more confident in providing appropriate services to all the council’s customers. The handbook was tailored specifically to meet the needs of housing staff in providing services to people in their own homes and in the office and also when letting homes.

Staff Exit Questionnaire Horton Housing Association It has long been recognised that knowing why staff leave our organisation provides us with valuable management information. For any organisation committed to achieving a multi-cultural workforce, it will also be important to identify whether staff from different ethnic groups have similar or divergent experiences of the organisation and reasons for leaving. Horton Housing Association have recently reviewed their staff exit questionnaire to assist them in capturing this information.

Dignity at Work – Standards of Behaviour in the Crown Prosecution Service Crown Prosecution Service Many organisations outside social housing, both in the public and private sector, have produced much good work in the field of equality and diversity. This document, Dignity at Work, produced by the Crown Prosecution Service, sets out the standards of behaviour expected from their staff and would provide a useful starting point for anyone looking to develop similar standards or to integrate some guidelines into an existing staff handbook or similar.

Model Policy on Gender Recognition NATFHE The University and College Lecturers' Union has produced a model policy on gender recognition for use by further and higher educational organisations. Although not specifically housing-related, it will be of interest to housing providers both from the employment and service delivery perspectives and may provide a useful starting point for considering how well your organisation is equipped to respect and value differing gender identities.
