At Salvation Army Homes we are dedicated to providing comprehensive, good quality housing services, support and resettlement, for people who have recently experienced homelessness and who are in need of support and accommodation.

Mildmay House works to enable the growth of people’s strengths and talents supporting them to develop their skills and resources to transform their lives overcoming barriers such as alcohol and drug dependencies, and enable independent living

The Support Worker will engage creatively with people who have multiple and challenging complex needs who have experienced long periods of homelessness, rough sleeping, substance use and enduring long term mental illness to identify, and enable the growth of their strengths and talents, working with them to develop the skills and resources to transform their lives and enable independent living.
Please note this is a full time role working on a rota basis - generally a week of day shifts, a week of night shifts and working every other weekend.

What you will be doing:

  • Delivering high quality, effective, timely and person centred assessments for allocated clients to identify and prioritise needs.

  • Providing support to clients in order to manage personal care needs e.g. personal hygiene.

  • Developing services specifically focusing on reducing the number of drug and alcohol admissions to emergency services.

  • Pro-actively addressing deterioration in physical and emotional well-being, isolation and exclusion.

  • Ensuring the standard of accommodation and grounds are of a consistently high level through communication and practical means. This includes assisting with clearing clients’ rooms, identifying and reporting repairs and maintaining equipment to high standard


About the Service:
Mildmay House is a 47 bed supported accommodation service for single homeless males and females aged 16 upwards, clients who live at our service come from a variety of backgrounds/circumstances including relationship breakdowns, rough sleeping, mental health, drugs & alcohol use. At Mildmay we seek to provide a warm, respectful and supportive environment for clients. We want every person who walks through the door to feel that Mildmay is their home from Day 1. Staff aim to support and encourage clients throughout their stay/journey with us as they move towards independent living.

This role is known internally as Support Worker
SupportWorker will instinctively share Salvation Army Homes delivery values and behaviours, loving your work, helping people to thrive and always finding a way to be effective. You will need to:

  • Have experience of supporting vulnerable people or groups

  • Have experience of working with people who have had long periods of homelessness, rough sleeping, substance use and enduring long term mental illness (desirable)

  • Be a confident and capable communicator, not fazed by difficult situations

  • Be able to build trusting, professional relationships and have a high level of resilience.

  • Take an asset-based approach to empowering people to develop their skills, strengths and talents.

  • Have good knowledge or experience of working with homeless people, and / or supporting vulnerable people or groups,

  • Understand or learn about community resources and organisations that can help our clients

  • Able to be flexible with working hours to accommodate a working Rota in conjunction with the needs of the service and team members
