Board Members
Location: London
Time commitment: Approximately 2 days a month
Remuneration: £16,000 per annum
For more than 160 years, Peabody's purpose has been to provide safe and comfortable homes and help create better neighbourhoods and communities.
Today, we look after 220,000 residents across London and the South East, reinvesting the money we generate directly back into maintaining and improving our homes and building new ones.
We're building Peabody's Board for the future. As part of our Board succession, we're looking for two experienced and thoughtful leaders who share our commitment to better outcomes for residents.
We’re looking for people with expertise in:
Asset Management, Investment and Building Safety
You’ll be a senior leader with significant experience in residential asset management, property investment, maintenance, major works or capital programmes. This role calls for someone who can balance resident outcomes, regulatory compliance, building safety and value for money, helping Peabody make informed long-term decisions that keep homes safe, sustainable and fit for the future.
Given the scale and complexity of the homes we look after, including a significant number of high-rise homes, building safety expertise will be particularly valuable. You'll help the Board oversee compliance, assurance and remediation activity, ensuring residents remain safe and our homes continue to meet changing regulatory expectations.
You'll have a strong appreciation of the political, economic and social context in which housing associations operate. You may have gained this experience in housing, local or central government, public services, construction, infrastructure, regulation or other highly regulated environments.
We'd particularly welcome experience of asset optimisation, contractor and supply chain management, procurement, sustainability and decarbonisation. Experience of overseeing major property or infrastructure programmes, with responsibility for performance, risk and delivery at Board or senior leadership level, would be particularly valuable.
Customer Experience, Digital and Data
We're looking for someone who understands how organisations can use customer insight, digital capability and data to improve services. This role is about helping Peabody understand what matters most to residents, ensuring customer feedback informs decision-making and supporting transformation that delivers lasting improvements.
You'll bring experience of leading or overseeing customer-focused transformation, service improvement or customer strategy within a complex organisation. You'll understand that every interaction helps shape residents' trust and confidence and you'll recognise the role culture, communication and customer insight play in delivering better services and outcomes.
While this isn't a technology specialist role, digital capability, data and insight are increasingly important to how we deliver services and understand residents' needs. We're looking for someone who understands how they can support better decision-making, improve services and help the organisation respond to changing customer expectations. You'll have a strong appreciation of the opportunities and challenges of digital transformation and the role these play in shaping strategy and service delivery.
You may have gained this expertise in housing, regulated services, the public sector, consumer-facing organisations or other complex environments where customer outcomes and continuous improvement are vital.
About you
You'll bring strong strategic judgement, sound governance instincts and the ability to contribute constructively to Board discussions. You'll be comfortable offering support and constructive challenge, scrutinising performance and helping inform Peabody's long-term success. You'll be able to balance resident outcomes, stakeholder interests and the wider responsibilities of governance and stewardship.
While previous Board experience would be welcome, we are equally interested in hearing from accomplished leaders with a strong track record of executive-level strategic leadership who can bring fresh perspectives and are ready to make their first contribution in a non-executive capacity.
We are committed to building a diverse Board and fostering an inclusive culture where everyone can thrive. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, identities and experiences, particularly those whose insights and lived experience can help us better understand and reflect the communities we serve. If this opportunity interests you and you can demonstrate many of the skills and experiences we are seeking, we encourage you to explore the role further, even if you do not meet every requirement. Your leadership experience, perspective and potential may be exactly what we are looking for.
