Job Description

We’re looking for a detail oriented Information Governance Officer to be responsible for having robust policies and processes in place to ensure that we are effectively managing personal data in line with legal requirements. As a champion of Information Governance and data protection, you will be the first point of contact for all information requests, reporting of data incidents, data sharing enquiries and ensuring that the Record of Processing Activity (RoPA) remains comprehensive and up to date.

You will have a proactive approach in supporting the Governance Team and colleagues across the business to undertake data protection and information governance related functions - which includes providing advice, guidance and training to colleagues.

The role - What I’ll be doing

  • Implementing and maintaining our RoPA - working with colleagues across the business to ensure that it is comprehensive and up-to-date

  • Responding and data gathering for a variety of information requests, including Subject Access Requests (SARs)

  • Investigating and reporting on any data breaches and incidents within required timeframes – including determining whether the incidents are reportable to the ICO.

  • Communicating with customers and colleagues regarding their data protection data protection rights and information requests.

  • Keeping up to date with good practice, legal and regulatory changes in relation to data protection – to identify potential implications for Salix Homes and suggest changes to policies and procedures to maintain compliance.

  • Actively supporting Managers to undertake Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) as required by the business.

  • Driving improvements to organisational Information Governance and Data Protection working practices across the business via communications, training and Data Protection events as necessary.

  • Prepare data breach/compliance reports for presentation to SMT / Audit & Risk Committee.

  • To be the first point of contact to provide guidance and advice on general enquiries related to all access to information requests and data protection matters.

  • Educate and train colleagues on important data protection compliance requirements.


What we’re looking for

  • excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • excellent knowledge of Data Protection legislation and understanding of how this is applied.

  • A sound knowledge of data protection and information governance good practice.

  • Courteous and effective when dealing with people with the ability to exchange information in a tactful and diplomatic manner.

  • A critical thinker who is solutions focussed

  • An ability to confidently challenge colleagues and ensure compliance with processes.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to research and succinctly present information compiled from large and varying data sources.

  • Annual Salary of between £33,024 - £34,834 dependant on experience

  • (Hybrid Working – minimum of 2 days working in the office although the role may require additional office attendance)
