Sustainability and Place Officer

We are looking for a passionate Sustainability & Place Officer to join our Development & Assets Directorate.

The right person for this role will have a strong understanding of sustainability, carbon reduction, and community-based initiatives. You will be responsible for driving our sustainability agenda, supporting our decarbonisation plans, ensuring we integrate environmental considerations into our asset management strategies and leading on projects within our communities through a sustainability lens.

We are looking for someone who is highly organised, data-driven, and able to collaborate effectively with colleagues, customers, and external partners. If you have a passion for making a positive impact through sustainability, we’d love to hear from you.

54North Homes owns and manages circa 4,000 homes throughout Yorkshire. Formed in December 2022, through a merger between Leeds & Yorkshire Housing Association and York Housing Association we are a subsidiary of the Karbon Homes Group.

At 54North, we believe in providing high quality, affordable homes that are safe, warm and secure and supporting our customers to live well in their communities. We put customers at the heart of everything we do and strive to provide an excellent level of service. This extends beyond the bricks and mortar of our homes to empowering our customers and working in partnership to offer a range of other services, from training to financial support.

In addition to investing in our existing properties, we have an ambitious development programme and will provide c.200 new sustainable homes throughout Yorkshire in the next three years to help address the shortage of good-quality affordable housing in the region.

The Job
You will be an enthusiastic and proactive team player, committed to embedding sustainability into all aspects of 54North Homes' operations.

Working within the Assets and Growth Directorate, you will collaborate with a supportive leadership team to:

  • Advocate and implement sustainability initiatives across our organisation.
  • Assist in the rollout of the decarbonisation plan, supporting retrofit programmes and EPC/net-zero targets.
  • Work with colleagues, contractors, and customers to calculate and report on our carbon footprint.
  • Monitor fuel poverty levels and assist in the delivery of support initiatives.
  • Keep up to date with sustainability legislation, best practices, and funding opportunities.
  • Develop and promote nature-based solutions, green spaces, and biodiversity projects.
  • Offer guidance to colleagues on sustainability and energy efficiency.
  • Identify and manage funding streams to support our sustainability and decarbonisation goals.
  • Lead on community-based projects which focus on sustainability.
  • Track and report on sustainability KPIs and the social value created through our initiatives.

    Key Information

  • Salary: is £30,420 per annum
  • Car allowance: £2,260 per annum
  • Location: Typically, 2 days in our Leeds or York office
  • 37 Hours per week with homeworking available/flexible working
  • Generous benefits package including 26 days annual leave, occupational pension, health cash plan, and birthday leave
