The level 1 adult safeguarding course is designed for frontline staff who work directly or indirectly with vulnerable adults and have a responsibility to identify and respond to potential abuse. We cover the definition of abuse, the definition of a vulnerable adult as confirmed in the Care Act, the forms and types of abuse, including signs and indicators that abuse may be occurring, how to respond to a disclosure of abuse and what to do next, strategies to prevent abuse occurring, the specific responsibilities of the staff members in question, the reporting process and how to make safeguarding personal.
Following the session staff will be able to better understand how abuse can occur and be equipped to identify it at the earliest possibility and be confident in how to respond and their specific reporting and recording responsibilities. It is vital that staff working with vulnerable adults have these skills.
This session is run by Andy Ryan. Alongside his lived experience of neurodivergence, Andy is a health and social care, supported housing and EDI professional who has worked in the industry for around 18 years. He has built teams and services from the ground up, supported neurodivergent service users and employees, and currently works in the training and development space.
