HDN confirms Mushtaq Khan as Chief Executive

The Housing Diversity Network has announced the permanent appointment of Mushtaq Khan as CEO.

The move cements Mushtaq’s position at the helm of the network after his six month period as interim CEO has seen great strides in the organisation’s growth and emergence as a leading thinker in the drive to improve Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) in the housing sector and beyond.

Having worked for a number of housing and regeneration organisations, as well as large metropolitan councils including Oldham and Lambeth, Mushtaq is ideally placed to help organisations to develop inclusive and thriving businesses. His motivation is to ensure that disadvantaged communities have housing, employment and training opportunities to help them achieve their potential, which he aims to do through HDN initiatives such as its growing Board Diversity Programme.

Debansu Das, the Housing Diversity Network chair, insists that Mushtaq’s demonstrable experience in leadership roles make him the ideal appointment, saying: “He’s a hugely respected figure, with in depth knowledge of ED&I within the sector, and as interim CEO Mushtaq has given a huge boost to the growth of the organisation and wellbeing of our staff, associates and HDN members.”

As the next chapter in his career opens, Mushtaq believes inclusive organisations have never been more important than they are right now. He says: “The pandemic has highlighted major inequalities in society, and the BLM movement, with its focus on institutional discrimination, has put further onus on organisations to look afresh at the way they do things.

“We want HDN to be an organisation that can help the sector explore these issues and come up with long lasting solutions.”
