New members share ambitions with HDN

New members share ambitions with HDN
    26th August 2020

Two of The Housing Diversity Network’s newest members, Barnsley based Berneslai Homes and Orwell Housing, reveal their common aims and reasons for partnering with HDN.

Dave Fullen, director of customer and estate services at Berneslai says: “We are delighted to be joining the Housing Diversity Network. Equality, diversity and inclusion have always being at the heart of what we do; and they define our approach to delivering housing services in Barnsley.”

“#BlackLivesMatter, and the evidence of the impact of Covid-19 on the BAME community, and those living in the worst housing conditions, have highlighted how much more there is still to do in the housing sector.”

Berneslai Homes is developing its new 10 year strategic plan and David believes that that through the new partnership with HDN it can strengthen its service offer and, in so doing, promote equality, diversity and opportunity for all.

Down in sunny Suffolk, Michelle Harrison, newly appointed director of people and culture at Orwell Housing, also has high hopes for the collaboration, saying: “A key part of my remit is to really embed equality, diversity and inclusivity (ED&I) across the organisation.”

While researching online for some strategy content, Michelle found a reference to the Housing Diversity Network and visited our website.  “It looked great,” she says. “It’s a super resource tailored specifically (but not exclusively) to the housing sector which offers guidance, advice and training, which is just what I was looking for.”

Michelle had a chat with HDN interim chief executive Mushtaq Khan and says the variety of the offer really appealed: “Free webinars for members, a localised Diversity Network group where we can share ideas and an accreditation pathway to support work to embed ED&I is just what I was looking for,” she says. “We must continually engage with our people and continue to offer them training, so having online resources will be invaluable.

“Orwell is delighted to be signing up to membership with the HDN and I’m really looking forward to working with them.”
